Let’s look into some bookish knowledge about what Self-Acceptance is, which I am pretty sure most of you will skip, but I have to make this long so…

Self-acceptance can be defined as:

· the awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses,

· the realistic appraisal of one’s talents, capabilities, and general worth, and,

· feelings of satisfaction with one’s self despite deficiencies and regardless of past behaviors and choices.

Let’s talk about something which feels more relatable and less bookish.

I am pretty sure, if you are reading this article, you might have suffered through some kind of mental illness or depression of any scale. If you have not then, this article might not be for you.

Now, try and analyze what made you fall into that pit of depression. Was it because your partner broke up with you? Or were your marks less? Did you feel like you were nobody or you have not done anything worthy enough?

And by the way, if you are still reading it, this article is definitely for you. Let’s dive into it already.

You fell into it because you lack the power of Self-Acceptance. Self-Acceptance is the most powerful thing anybody can ever have.

But what really is it?

Let’s talk about a fun topic — Weaknesses.

Do you have weaknesses? Well, I most certainly do. I am bad at time management, and as a matter of fact, I handed this article pretty late from the deadline, let’s put that aside.

I am pretty sure you have weaknesses too. Nobody is perfect.

But, have you acknowledged them?

What do I mean by that?

Well, have you made peace with yourself that yeah, I suck at this thing and there are people who can do this better than me?

Those things may be college assignments, technical development skills, communication skills or anything in the whole world. Until and unless you don’t accept the fact that you are bad at something, you will not get better at it ever. Your mind won’t allow you to get better at it because according to your mind you already are better. Well, we both know you are not.

Then why not accept it and try to be better at it?

If you don’t acknowledge it then you are basically just pretending that you are perfect, but in reality, you are far from it and quite bluntly, you can never succeed in life with that mindset.

Well, enough of your weaknesses, I don’t want to make you guys cry.

Let’s talk about Strengths.

Self-Acceptance is not only about accepting your weaknesses and getting better at them, it’s also about identifying your strengths.

One thing I like to do is to keep reminding myself of things that I am good at and/or love to do. I sometimes talk about it to my friends or my family or I write those things down.

Believe me or not, that makes me feel very confident and enables me to set goals in my life which in return again boost my self-confidence. This very thing can also help you accept your weaknesses if you are confident enough.

Last but not the least, Self-Acceptance is also about letting go of the things you can’t change.

This is probably the hardest part of Self-Acceptance, but also, the most important and beneficial one. Instead of focusing on the things you can’t change, why not welcome the things you actually love about yourself and focus on the things that you CAN change?

That was pretty much it and I know it was lengthy and most of you probably won’t even remember it, so just do me a favor and just remember this one line-

Who will accept you if you can’t accept yourself?
